Origins
The Shadow Figure's origins in River Creek have sent fear into the hearts of all who have heard of it. In the long and eerie history of River Creek, the origins of the shadow figure can be traced back to the early 1800s. A secretive and deadly cult gathered in was is now known as the West River Creek Woods. They started performing dark rituals that began with animal sacrifices, but as their thirst for power grew, they escalated to kidnapping and sacrificing the local townspeople, instilling fear throughout the community. The cult was theorized to have many different rituals they would perform, but the only one that has been said to be true is the ritual about releasing the spirits and leaving them in the mortal world. That was what led to what many people in town believe to be the creation of the shadow figures. What they didn’t know was that the souls would carry on the personality of the person. So the souls of the “Damned” would do things that they used to do, but they had to have a physical body to do so. So for example, if a soul wanted to go on a killing spree they would take over a body and do what they set out to do. Though the townsfolk eventually intervened and put an end to the cult's gruesome practices, whispers persist that the cult has returned, lurking in the shadows, and still to this very day creating more and more shadow people.
